In its early life, the hotel housed the Thiers Foundation, a French institution created in 1892 to assist the early careers of young students considered promising. In the 1980s, the building became the home of the Saint James Club, in the tradition of London circles. Today, it remains a club and welcomes discerning couples from all over the world.
