Le Mas d'Aigret is an unusual 4-star hotel located at the foot of the famous medieval town of Les Baux-de-Provence, in the South of France. It offers a panoramic terrace with breathtaking views of the Baux valley and the Alpilles mountains. We have a soft spot (to say the least) for the restaurant's vaulted room and the two characterful rooms carved directly into the rock.
Reservation
We recommend booking your stay at Mas d'Aigret via Booking.com, which often offers free cancellation. Send us a message on Instagram if you go, it would make us super happy.
Good to know: Le Mas d'Aigret is open from late March to mid-November. The owners are dog-friendly and accept pets for an additional fee of €20 per day.
Discovering the farmhouse
The hotel is located at the foot of the rocky cliff atop which stands the fortified town of Les Baux-de-Provence. You are just 500 meters from the famous Provençal village. Don't miss the Château des Baux, a veritable stone vessel!
On site, the team offers a warm, friendly, and very cheerful welcome. Eric and Marieke are the caretakers and owners of the establishment. They are passionate about preserving its soul and character.
When the weather is nice, head out to the outdoor terrace. Bask in the sunshine, accompanied by the song of cicadas, and let yourself be enchanted by the panoramic view of the Vallée des Baux, the Alpilles, and the Château des Baux. A dip in the heated pool is, of course, highly recommended to cool off. The pool is located away from the farmhouse, in the shade of the estate’s 400-year-old oak trees.
16 rooms
The hotel has only 16 charming rooms ranging from 17m² to 39m² for the largest. Here are our favorites:
1 • Standard Room • Photo
2 • Standard Room with Terrace • Photo
3 • Superior Room with Balcony or Terrace • Photo
4 • Deluxe Room with Terrace • Photo
5 • Cave Room • Photo
Depending on your choice, you will have the following amenities: queen or king-size bed, private terrace or balcony, bathroom with whirlpool tub, bathtub or shower, bathrobes, slippers, separate toilet, private entrance, air conditioning, safe, minibar, courtesy tray, and Wi-Fi.
If you want a particularly unique and romantic room, we recommend one of the two cave rooms, carved into the rock. One has a spa bath, while the other has a waterfall shower: the water flows directly from the stone!
For the record, these spaces in the rock are known as troglodyte spaces. This tradition dates back to prehistoric times. Le Mas d'Aigret plays with this age-old heritage in the most beautiful of ways, and not just in the rooms.
Meals
For your meals, head to the hotel restaurant, which offers refined and delicious dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients! Once again, the team is very friendly and attentive. Among the dishes on offer: cod fillet with chanterelle mushrooms or slow-cooked duck breast, pan-fried foie gras escalope with morel mushroom sauce.
Breakfast is served as a generous buffet with savory and sweet options, local honey, local products, freshly squeezed orange juice, and scrambled eggs cooked to order. It is available at an additional cost of €19 per person per day.
If it's a little chilly outside, ask for a table in the vaulted dining room, near the imposing stone fireplace with its crackling fire. What an atmosphere! And a much-appreciated old-fashioned charm.
A cozy retreat near Les Baux-de-Provence
Le Mas d'Aigret is located in South of France, between Avignon and Arles, just a few minutes' walk from Les Baux-de-Provence. This prestigious town, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking a sumptuous thousand-year-old landscape of vineyards and olive groves, is one of France's most beautiful villages. A private road leads directly from the hotel.
There's a memorable activity just a 10-minute walk from the hotel: Les Carrières de Lumière. This museum is housed in a former limestone quarry. The immense walls of matt-white rock provide the perfect backdrop for a veritable sound and light show. As the exhibition is immersive, you often find yourself in the middle of moving paintings. Striking and magnificent.
