The Miramonti Boutique Hotel is a Hotel 5* located in Santa Caterina, in northern Italy. You are in the Dolomites, in the province of South Tyrol. Let's not beat around the bush, this place is in our top 3 of all the hotels we have tested on Let's Go My Love. Go there immediately, it's fabulous.
Reservation
We recommend booking your stay at Miramonti via Booking.com, which often offers free cancellation. Send us a message on Instagram if you decide to go—we'd love to hear from you.
Discover our stay
We have had the opportunity to stay here twice, and each time has been a unique experience. It's the kind of hotel you still think about regularly, even months after your stay. And yet we try out dozens of hotels every year. But this one is different.
What we like best here:
- The perfect combination of luxury and soul
- The constant feeling of being in a movie
- Natural, effortless class (with a touch of noble nonchalance)
- The staff's great kindness
- Martina was extremely warm during our stay
- The team is very well dressed, all in black and classic style
- The fabulous view from the living room with a crackling fire
- The totally original spa in the forest (and what a pool!)
- The mini cinema with popcorn available
The arrival
The hotel is literally perched on a mountainside, offering a bird's-eye view of the Merano valley. It is one of the few places where you can physically feel like you are floating above the clouds, with a 270-degree panorama of the peaks of the Tessa group.
The architecture of the Miramonti evokes the sophisticated elegance of the 007 films. The small church of St. Kathrein, right next door, was used as a location in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me. The hotel naturally cultivates this atmosphere of a luxurious hideaway for secret agents.
The rooms
There are 47 rooms in total, decorated in 6 different styles. The view is breathtaking. Here are some of our favorite room categories:
1 • M-Room • Photo • Photo
2 • Urban Room with Jacuzzi • Photo • Photo
3 • Spa Suite • Photo • Photo
4 • Q Suite • Photo • Photo
5 • Rooftop Loft • Photo • Photo
Depending on the room you choose, you will have access to the following amenities: Hästens bed, covered terrace or south-facing balcony, rooftop garden, jacuzzi, Finnish sauna, heated outdoor shower, bay window, wooden deck chairs, bathroom with walk-in shower, freestanding bathtub, herringbone wood flooring, and original Mössmer lamps by South Tyrolean designer Debiasi Sandri.
The owners, Carmen and Klaus, have designed some of the rooms as personal retreats. They are not only luxurious, they are imbued with character, featuring art books, record players, and iconic designer furniture.
During our second stay, we were upgraded to room 306. A wonderful welcome note was waiting for us on the bed. The staff remembered our previous stay three years earlier.
What we liked best about the room: the extraordinary scent of the shower gel, which is an experience in itself, the shower lining, the pillow that makes a snowy sound (I have no other word to describe this sensation), and the curtains around the room.
In terms of materials, the hotel makes extensive use of porphyry, a local volcanic rock, combined with larch wood and glass.
Tip: When booking, ask for a room as far away from the elevator as possible. The standard rooms are perhaps a little minimalist for the price. If you have the budget, opt for a higher category.
The spa in the forest
During your stay, we strongly recommend exploring the spa located behind the hotel, in the forest. There is a jacuzzi in the forest, a small swimming pool, and a sauna.
The hotel offers a unique ritual: an onsen inspired by Japanese traditions. The idea is to combine the purity of mountain water with the Zen philosophy of hot bathing in the open air, surrounded by pine trees.
The infinity pool a little further down is undoubtedly the hotel’s most famous feature. The saltwater seems to flow right into the void. Swimming here, surrounded by snow-capped peaks or under a starry sky, is an almost mystical experience. One small complaint: we would have liked it to be a bit warmer. Check out this video from the lounge. And here’s another video we really like.
Catering
Listed in the Michelin Guide, the restaurant is like a glass box suspended in the clouds. The cuisine is a perfect fusion of German rigor (local produce, game, root vegetables) and Italian creativity. We drank our best non-alcoholic cocktail of the entire Let's Go My Love trip there: the Kambucha.
In the morning, breakfast is flawless. Special mention goes to the pistachio sauce, the divine cappuccino, and the porridge. Yum!
During the day, snuggle up by the fire in the hotel lounge, help yourself to some cookies around 4 p.m. at tea time, put the world to rights, or admire the view for the 143rd time that day. Life is good here... There's an atmosphere of a very exclusive family home in the air.
And if you're lucky enough to have a beautiful sunset that day, here's a photo to give you a taste. The most beautiful moment of our stay.
Location
The hotel is located in Santa Caterina, 20 minutes from Merano. You need a car to get to the hotel. There is a small gas station 3 minutes from the hotel, which saved our lives because we had no gas left when we arrived.
From the lobby, you have direct access to hiking trails that wind through the forest. In winter, the hotel offers snowshoeing excursions or private shuttles to the Merano 2000 ski area.
Merano is a fascinating city where snow-capped Alpine peaks meet lush Mediterranean vegetation consisting of palm trees and cypresses. It's very surprising. It's like Austria meets Italy. We recommend taking a stroll along the waterfront, especially during the Christmas Market.
Want to go for a walk? The Tappeinerweg is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful high-altitude walks in Europe. Between 4 and 6 kilometers long depending on the route, it winds its way around 100 meters above the town, along the mountainside of Mount Küchelberg. The vegetation is exotic and the view is picture-postcard perfect. We took the short version and zigzagged halfway down to Merano.
The hotel has 47 rooms, lofts, and suites, all with stunning views.
