La Cabane sur l'Eau is a wonderful place on the French-Belgian border, south of Charleroi in Belgium. You're on the edge of a lake, in a completely private domain. Véronique and Rudy are the friendly owners. They live in a large villa, also by the lake, but at a sufficient distance.

Prices start at around 195€ per night for 2 people. The calendar fills up quickly, so we advise you to book several weeks in advance. In the event of cancellation for reasons other than the weather, Véronique always offers to reschedule your stay. And if she manages to re-let the cabin, you'll get your money back.

We were lucky enough to sleep there, and what an experience! The weather was perfect, and we were able to take a walk around the lake and go for a punt in a rowboat. The bed is very cosy, with old-fashioned sheets. The view of the lake (our on-site video) from the room is... Waow. In winter, it must be even crazier.

When you arrive on site, you can park your car in a private parking lot. You'll be greeted by the friendly manager. Communication is possible in French, Dutch, German or English. You can bring your dog with you for an extra charge of €15. Once you've completed your guided tour, you'll have the privacy of your own cabin.

Formerly a boat garage, this 30m² cabin has been completely renovated and fitted out. The wood decor is simple and charming. Old fishing rods hang on the wall. The cabin includes a kitchenette, a dining room, a bathroom area with sanitary facilities and a large double bed with a breathtaking view of the lake thanks to the large bay window.

A basic household set is available: sugar, milk, butter, jam, coffee, tea, etc. Bed linen, towels and shower products are available. The kitchen has a fridge, microwave oven, cooking utensils, hob, toaster and coffee machine.

From the terrace, you can enjoy the exceptional view over the lake and the calm that reigns. A boat is available for exploring the lake. Birds and squirrels sometimes venture onto the terrace. It's like being in a painting!

In the morning, what a pleasure to wake up to birdsong and soothing views. Breakfast is available as an optional extra. Just ask when you book. What we also like: check-out is possible until 2 p.m. when it's usually 11 a.m. or noon.

Many activities await you in the surrounding area. Here are just a few ideas: Scourmont Abbey, Chimay and its castle, Charleville-Mézières and its ducal square, the twin of the Place des Vosges in Paris, or Couvin and its caves. Numerous walks on the Ravel river nearby, departing from Mariembourg.
