La Cabanouille is a fully renovated former fishermen’s lodge located in Havelange, 20 minutes from Durbuy and 35 minutes from Namur, in Belgium. We absolutely loved this place, surrounded by ponds and meadows. It’s rustic, picturesque, and very well-maintained.

Our experience
We had the chance to spend a night here and talk at length with the owner. She lives about a 10-minute walk away and always takes the time to welcome you when you arrive. After that, you’re all alone in the world.
Our favorites here:
- The true sense of being in a different world
- The cinematic feel of the place
- The quality of the materials
- Every detail has been given special attention
- The horses grazing right next to the terrace
- The complete absence of noise
- It is a completely private estate
During our stay, we had the pleasure of watching the horses that regularly came to greet us near the terrace. There were also many wild geese.
As a bit of trivia, the name “Cabanouille” is a play on words combining “caban” (hut) and “grenouille” (frog), a nod to the inhabitants of the ponds surrounding the property. Their croaking accompanies your days and creates a soothing atmosphere.
The cabin
When you arrive, go through the gate and park your car on your right. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the cabin. The cabin was built on the site of a former fishermen’s shelter, along a row of three ponds.
When you walk through the door, a welcome tray filled with local products will be waiting for you on the living room table. A thoughtful touch to get your stay off to a great start!
The interior is primarily composed of antique materials: roof beams from old farmhouses, antique doors found at an antique dealer’s, and antique oak flooring, for example.
Many of the accessories are one-of-a-kind pieces. Be sure to check out the clock above the front door, the rope (bought in Ostend) wrapped around the patio, and the old shell used to hold umbrellas.
The following amenities are available: a bedroom with a queen-size bed, a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need, a bathroom with a walk-in shower and soaps from Savonneries Bruxelloises, and an outdoor terrace. The terrace features very comfortable lounge chairs and a large wooden table.
Good to know: There is no Wi-Fi, and the 5G signal is weak but works somewhat, especially upstairs.
What we love: the mini-bar in the kitchen, where you can eat side by side while enjoying the view of the pond and the surrounding nature.
The extras
In the morning, breakfast is delivered at the time of your choice. It is included in your reservation. It is left in front of the front door in a pretty basket.
On the menu: fresh pastries, fresh bread, local yogurt, muesli, jams, and honey from Trussogne, harvested in the Condroz valleys.
Depending on the package you selected when you made your reservation, you’ll also receive a basket of local specialties (including a bottle of cider, cheese, and bread) or a festive basket with a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates from Passion Chocolat.
Location
La Cabanouille is located in the heart of the Belgian Condroz region, between Namur and Durbuy.
If you're looking for a good fine-dining restaurant in the area, we highly recommend La Table de Manon, a 15-minute drive away. Chef Manon and her team serve creative and innovative cuisine centered around seasonal ingredients and local producers.
If you'd rather eat in the comfort of the cabin, My Burger is the easiest option. You can place your order online, pay online, and pick it up on-site—just a 15-minute drive away.
