Our experience here
We had the opportunity to visit the entire suite and have coffee with the owners. We talked a lot. It's gorgeous, and the photos don't do it justice.
What we loved:
- The quality of the materials, which isn't visible in the photos
- The good taste in all the interior decoration
- The underfloor heating (the best of the best)
- The ultra-meticulous cleaning
- The really pleasant shower
- The woodwork and beams that give it character
- The delicious homemade breakfast
Homeowners in the Ardennes
Both originally from the Aisne valley, Joëlle and Jean-Luc have lovingly renovated an annex to their house. They chose the name Monts d'Aisne because Mormont is one of the region's peaks, and also because Jean-Luc had already given the name to a graduation project for a winter leisure center. Communication goes smoothly in French, Dutch and English.
Joëlle and Jean-Luc are bon vivants, very sociable and at the same time very professional and discreet. Before taking over Les Monts d'Aisne, they owned a hotel in the region. They therefore have solid experience in the hotel industry, and this is immediately apparent. Read the online reviews, which are almost always 5 out of 5.
The suite with a whirlpool tub
Located at the rear of a building, the suite is hidden away and accessible via a separate staircase leading to the spacious private terrace above. You have your own private entrance. The owners live right next door if needed, but your privacy is completely respected. They are used to it.
Note: The owners enjoy welcoming guests and giving them a tour of the suite. However, if you prefer to check in independently or quickly, please feel free to let them know.
Inside, you will find a cozy living room with a sofa and flat-screen TV, a bedroom with a king-size bed on the mezzanine, a bathroom with a Carrara marble shower, organic toiletries, a fully equipped kitchen, and a Nespresso machine with capsules and spring water provided. The decor is very pleasant, with wood accents and soft lighting. The underfloor heating adds to the warmth of the space.
Opposite the bed, enjoy a bubble bath with light therapy. To complete the wellness area, there is also a sauna with soft lighting and the option to connect your smartphone to add the music of your choice.
Dining options
In the morning, a delicious breakfast included in the price of your reservation is served from 8:30 a.m. outside your suite. The bread and pastries come from La Planche à Papa in Barvaux, the best bakery in the region.
On the menu: artisanal yogurts, hand-squeezed orange juice, Liège syrup, orchard cherries, homemade jams, freshly baked bread rolls and pastries, local charcuterie and cheeses. Joëlle sometimes adds pancakes or other treats on Sundays—yum! Feel free to tell her what you like.
A catering service is available in the evening, including a local menu priced at €48 per person. Everything is lovingly prepared by Joëlle and placed in the refrigerator before your arrival. Vegetarian meals are available. All you have to do is reheat everything at your convenience. A wine and beer list is available in the suite.
The countryside near Durbuy
Les Monts d'Aisne located 15 minutes from Durbuy, in Mormont, in the Belgian Ardennes. It is in the countryside, in a small village. There are many things to do in the surrounding area: visit the Lupulus Brewery, Durbuy of course, or the ruins of the Château de La-Roche-en-Ardenne.
Durbuy is an absolutely charming medieval town. Stroll through the old town with its stone houses, small craft shops, and lively terraces. Head up to the Belvédère viewpoint overlooking the town and the Ourthe valley. The view at sunset is superb.
Nearby, discover the small village of Wéris, famous for its high concentration of dolmens and menhirs. This fascinating place is steeped in ancient legends. For example, it is said that these megaliths were once used for rituals dedicated to fairies and nature spirits.
If you're looking for a rustic restaurant, there's Le Charme de Wibrinnot far away. It's in our top 5 in Belgium. A real mountain chalet, very cozy in winter and with a lovely, peaceful terrace. Delicious food and... Don't miss the crêpes!
