Les Ruines du Château are 2 enchanting suites hidden in the heart of a unique place in Belgium: the ruins of the ancient Château d'Aische-en-Refail. The location is Éghezée, near Namur in Wallonia. Get ready to discover an intimate and fascinating kingdom.

We had the opportunity to spend a memorable night here and meet the charming owners: Hélène and Sarah. What we liked best: the old-fashioned, romantic atmosphere, the large bathtub in the bathroom, the Jacuzzi on the terrace by the pond and the exceptionally comfortable bedding.
The history of the ruins goes back a long, long way... Among the castle's earliest owners was a wealthy 14th-century family: the de Vaulx family. In 1462, the de Vaulx family became one of the most important families in Namur, combining Château d'Aische and its various lands to form the seigneury of Aische.
After 1830, the château was no longer permanently inhabited, and ceased to be so after 1865. Relatively well preserved until 1917, it was then damaged during its occupation by French refugees, who used the doors and panelling for heating. If you're curious, take a look at this postcard to see what the château looked like around 1900.
Today, Hélène and Sarah are determined to rehabilitate this historic heritage, while offering a luxurious, refined atmosphere. We particularly like the stones, bricks and magnificent wave-shaped vaults.
There are 2 bedrooms: La Charmante and L'Envoûtante. Depending on your choice, you'll enjoy the following amenities: bedroom, luxury bedding from Sofitel Boutique, separate and independent access, private outdoor Jacuzzi, private sauna located under la tour du château, Smart TV with Netflix account available, private bathroom, oval bathtub and/or walk-in shower and luxury welcome products.
A strong point to emphasize: privacy and soundproofing. The thick stones allow you to make noise and use a music speaker without the risk of disturbing anyone. If you use the Jacuzzi outdoors, privacy is also total. No one can see you, and noise isn't a problem either. It doesn't sound like much, but it's a real comfort.
The bed is in the top 5 of our best beds tested (our video on site). This message from Gaëlle in the guest book sums up our feelings: "As I flew off to the land of Morpheus like a frigate on the way to the Americas, I realized one thing: this bedding is simply unreal! I was able to meet many characters, of all times and ages, good and bad, and it was an experience I'll never forget..."
Every morning, a delicious breakfast (included in your reservation) is delivered on a large wooden board. On the menu: fresh bread, pastries, jam, spreads, apple juice, eggs prepared to your liking, yoghurts from the farm, charcuterie and cheeses from the nearby Ferme du Pont des Dames. In the evening, you can have a meal or aperitif delivered directly to your room.
A few final tips:
1. Take good slippers with you, as the ground can be quite cold and the slippers provided aren't cozy enough for our taste. As the Jacuzzi is outside, we also recommend that you take sandals with you.
2. The bed features what's known as a galette. It's a kind of mattress topper that gives you the feeling of sleeping on a cloud. We made the mistake of using it as a blanket! Of course, you have to sleep on it. You can also remove it if you prefer a more traditional experience.
3. The 2 suites are relatively similar, but we have a slight preference for the Charmante thanks to its Jacuzzi and bathtub. The Envoûtante, however, still has serious assets. It's less expensive and has a private sauna.
Les Ruines du Château is located 20 minutes from Namur, in Wallonia, Belgium. You're 500 meters from one of Belgium's finest gourmet restaurants: L'air du Temps, a top 2* restaurant run by chef Sang Hoon Degeimbre. We also tested and greatly appreciated L'Envol, a much more affordable and atmospheric 10-minute drive away. If you fancy a stroll, we recommend the Grand-Leez woodland walk, which is short and very pleasant!
