Our stay
We had the opportunity to spend a very pleasant stay at the Mix. What we liked best: the impressive building itself, the futuristic space around the reception, the drapes in the rooms, the intricate lighting and the many spaces to discover. Beautiful! We like the resort feel of the hotel: everything is at your disposal and you don't need to go out.
History
The iconic building saw the light of day some 50 years ago. Construction began in 1967 and was completed 3 years later. The architecture is striking: cross-shaped, with a huge surface area of 54,000 m² and bronze-colored smoked windows. The 1st owner was Royale Belge, an insurance company.
After several changes of ownership, it was finally decided to turn it into a hotel in 2021. The renovation was carefully executed by architect Lionel Jadot, who was determined to preserve the functionalist, brutalist character of the building. Some 52 Belgian artists contributed to the hotel's decoration with numerous works of art. The result is a real success!
The rooms
In all, there are 140 rooms and 40 elegant studios. Depending on your choice, you'll enjoy the following amenities: very comfortable king-size bed, 2 types of pillow (aerolatex or exclusive), private bathroom with rain shower and/or bathtub with view, motorized blinds, parquet flooring and minimum 32-inch TV with IPTV and Chromecast.
A nice touch is the private beauty bar in each room, which is the equivalent of a mini-bar but with beauty products, creams and massage oils. Prices are displayed and you pay when you check out.
Some of our favorite rooms:
1 • Room Twenty • Photo • Photo
2 • Room Thirty • Photo • Photo
3 • Room Forty • Photo • Photo
4 • Room 40 Panorama • Photo • Photo
5 • Fifty Grand Vista Suite • Photo • Photo
Our favorite rooms? Those located at the end of each branch of the hotel's cross-shaped structure. They're the quietest and have 4 windows instead of 2, giving you a splendid panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Don't hesitate to ask in the comments when you book.
Breakfast
Every morning, head to the hotel's main restaurant (Romeo) for a gargantuan breakfast. On the menu: different types of fresh bread, scrambled eggs, pastries, plant-based milks, yoghurts, lots of fruit and lots of other goodies! Even if you're vegetarian, vegan or have allergies.
Brewery, rooftop bar, and café
When it comes to dining, you'll be spoiled for choice:
The elegant brasserie "Timber" offers cuisine inspired by Belgian traditions in a lively atmosphere, featuring dishes such as a delicious vegetarian carbonnade. It’s a bit pricey, but the food is excellent and the decor is stunning. Be sure to book a romantic table as soon as possible, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.
Then there's Romeo, an 800 m² south-facing rooftop terrace with deckchairs and delicious Italian snacks. Friday nights are beats and bites: one cocktail = one free slice of pizza!
Le Joule is open all day long, serving delicious coffee, sports supplements, drinks, and milkshakes. It's the perfect place to take a break during the day.
Finally, the Fox Food Market is home to 10 chef stalls offering a variety of guilty pleasures.
Spa for adults
This is our favorite place at the Mix: brilliant wellness for adults only. On the program: large indoor pool, large outdoor pool with sun loungers, state-of-the-art gym with group classes, ice cabin, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, salt grotto and many memorable massages to be booked in advance.
Good to know: the spa can sometimes be a victim of its own success. We recommend visiting right when it opens or in the evening to enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere. Here are the opening hours: 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekends and holidays. Last entry is at 9:45 PM on weekdays and 9:15 PM on weekends.
State-of-the-art gyms
Aside from the pleasant main gym, we recommend checking out the basement. Le Mix offers a 1,000 m² space entirely dedicated to HYROX, with a 100-meter indoor running track. Hyrox is an indoor fitness competition combining running and functional exercises. The sport originated in Germany in the late 2010s and is growing in popularity every year. It is unique in Europe and well worth a look.
Near Brussels
Le Mix Brussels located in an exceptional 8-hectare green setting, just outside Brussels, Belgium. Optional parking is available in the underground garage. You’ll find yourself on the banks of a beautiful pond, with a tram stop (No. 8) right across the street. The Grand Place is a 40-minute tram ride away.
The nearby Bois de la Cambre is undoubtedly the most beautiful wooded park in Belgium. We love taking walks there on the weekends. Designed in the English style, it feels like a real forest. The most beautiful part of the park is the lake surrounding the Chalet Robinson, a magnificent rustic restaurant (it’s a bit reminiscent of Canada) accessible only by boat.
PS: thanks to Eric Ostermann for the beautiful night photo above of the Mix
