Le Domaine des Thermes is a brand-new wellness hotel located in Awans, 10 minutes' drive from Liège, Belgium. Historically, it was an 18th-century farmhouse. Today, you'll discover a luxurious 2000m² estate with heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and numerous water features.

Our experience here

We come here fairly often to recharge our batteries.

Here’s what we like best: the excellent overall organization, the young and dynamic staff (dressed elegantly in black), the fact that they limit the number of guests in the spa to 90 at a time, the ban on smartphones in the spa (though not in the restaurant or the hotel, of course), the clear communication, and the breakfast.

A few tips:

- If you are staying overnight, please specify when booking that you would like a room with a view of the interior terrace and not the parking lot at the front
- Bathrobes, towels, and slippers can be rented on site, but they cost €5 per item (bring your own to save money)
- If you have forgotten your swimsuit, you can buy one on site
- Bring a good book, tablet, or magazine, as smartphones are not allowed in the spa.

A large farm at the beginning

Caroline and Stéphane are the owners of Domaine des Thermes. As a couple, they have always wanted to open their own wellness center in Belgium. It all came true in 2021 when they discovered a large farm with a unique character in the Liège region.

At first, it was just supposed to be a private spa and it has finally become a real domain dedicated to well-being! But the price remains more affordable than the average wellness center in Belgium.

Rooms and Suites

You can relax at the wellness center during the day or in the evening. But you can also choose to stay overnight. If you stay overnight, breakfast and access to the spa are included in the reservation price—both on the day of your arrival and the day of your departure, even after you’ve checked out of your room.

The main attraction is the indoor pool, which measures over 100m² and includes 2 zones: a swimming area and a spa area with floor bubbles, waterfall, massage jets and bubble bench. Really great fun!

Don't know what order to use for your sauna and hammam sessions? We advise you to go from the wettest to the driest and from the coldest to the hottest. So, for example, the ideal order is to start with the pool and finish with the hottest sauna.

Don't forget to refresh yourself between 2 hot sessions: a shower, a few minutes in the cold grotto or even a footbath to promote blood circulation.

The aromatic pouring ritual

Don't miss the aromatic pouring ritual that takes place regularly in the large sauna. Free 15-minute session for around 15 people at a time. You have to choose your time slot when you arrive. We've been there.

This ritual is a Finnish tradition in which the master of ceremonies mixes water with essential oils and pours the mixture onto hot stones. A delicious fragrance is released and the steam spreads throughout the room. The master of ceremonies then uses a towel or large fan to sweep and/or expel the air around you. It's an extraordinary sensation, both relaxing and energizing.

Dining options

Throughout the day and into the evening, stop by the hotel’s bar-restaurant for a meal or just to enjoy a drink by the fireplace. Feel free to stay in your bathrobe. Local ingredients take center stage, and all dishes are prepared using high-quality products. If the weather is nice, you can relax on the outdoor terrace.

Want to grab a bite to eat without breaking the bank? There’s a little chip shop just a 2-minute drive away: Le Cornet d'Awans. It’s really good.

Just a short distance from Liège

The Domaine des Thermes ideally located in the Liège region of Belgium, about 15 minutes from the historic center of Liège. The E42 highway is nearby, making it easy to reach from Brussels, for example.

If you get the chance, take a trip to Liège. The city is full of charm. Don't miss the historic Hors-Château district, with its narrow streets dating back to the Middle Ages.
