Le Domaine des Thermes is a brand-new wellness hotel located in Awans, 10 minutes' drive from Liège, Belgium. Historically, it was an 18th-century farmhouse. Today, you'll discover a luxurious 2000m² estate with heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and numerous water features.

We come here quite regularly to recharge our batteries. Here's what we like best: the very good overall organization, the young and dynamic team (with elegant black outfits), the fact that they accept a maximum of 90 people at any one time in the spa, the fact that smartphones are forbidden in the spa (but not in the restaurant or the hotel, of course), the very clear communication and the breakfast.

You can book for the day, the evening or an overnight stay in one of the 7 rooms available. If you're staying overnight, spa access and breakfast are included in the price of your reservation. Good to know: if you're staying for several days, please note that access to the spa is authorized on the day of arrival and on the day of departure, even after you've left your room.

Bathrobes, towels and slippers can be hired on site, but cost €5 per accessory per day. Bring your own gear to save money. If you've forgotten your swimsuit, you can buy one on site. We also advise you to bring a good book, tablet or magazine, as smartphones are not allowed in the spa.

Caroline and Stéphane are the owners of Domaine des Thermes. As a couple, they have always wanted to open their own wellness center in Belgium. It all came true in 2021 when they discovered a large farm with a unique character in the Liège region.

At first, it was just supposed to be a private spa and it has finally become a real domain dedicated to well-being! But the price remains more affordable than the average wellness center in Belgium.

On site, we welcome you in French, Dutch or English. The team is well-trained, smiling and professional.

The wellness area offers the following facilities:

- 4 different saunas
- 3 relaxation rooms
- 2 jacuzzis (one indoor, one outdoor)
- A large indoor pool heated to 31°C
- A hammam next to the pool
- A cold grotto
- A sensory shower with sound and visual effects to make you feel like you're in a jungle, for example
- An outdoor tree-lined garden with numerous deckchairs for sunbathing

The main attraction is the indoor pool, which measures over 100m² and includes 2 zones: a swimming area and a spa area with floor bubbles, waterfall, massage jets and bubble bench. Really great fun!

Don't know what order to use for your sauna and hammam sessions? We advise you to go from the wettest to the driest and from the coldest to the hottest. So, for example, the ideal order is to start with the pool and finish with the hottest sauna. Don't forget to cool off between 2 hot sessions: a shower, a few minutes in the cold grotto or even a footbath to promote blood circulation.

During the week, don't miss the aromatic pouring ritual that takes place every hour in the large sauna. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. Free 15-minute session with around 15 people at the same time. You have to choose your time slot when you arrive. We've been there, done that.

This ritual is a Finnish tradition in which the master of ceremonies mixes water with essential oils and pours the mixture onto hot stones. A delicious fragrance is released and the steam spreads throughout the room. The master of ceremonies then uses a towel or large fan to sweep and/or expel the air around you. It's an extraordinary sensation, both relaxing and energizing.

If you'd like to sleep in, there are 7 rooms, each with its own personality and theme. Depending on your choice, you'll enjoy the following amenities: queen or king-size bedding, private bathroom with walk-in shower, large bathtub, Smart TV, welcome products by Nuxe, hairdryer, mini-bar with complimentary bottle of water, wifi and air conditioning.

Our tip: specify when booking that you want a room overlooking the inner terrace and not the parking lot at the front.

Throughout the day and into the evening, head to the hotel's bar-restaurant for a meal or simply a drink by the fire. Regional ingredients are the order of the day, and all dishes are prepared with high-quality produce. If the weather is fine, you can relax on the outdoor terrace.

When it's raining or snowing, the atmosphere is very pleasant. Plaids and umbrellas are available if needed. Candles are placed around the estate. During the festive season, the whole estate is transformed to immerse you in the magical atmosphere of Christmas.

Domaine des Thermes is ideally located in the Liège region of Belgium, about 15 minutes from the historic center of Liège. The E42 freeway is nearby, making it easy to get here from Brussels, for example. Want to eat without spending too much? There's a little French fry shop 2 minutes' drive away: Le Cornet d'Awans. Very good.

If you get the chance, take a trip to Liège. The city is full of charm. Don't miss the historic Hors-Château district, with its narrow streets dating back to the Middle Ages.
