Le Quartier Latin is a fantastic 4* hotel located in Marche-en Famenne, in the Ardennes region of Belgium. Since 1989, the hotel has occupied the walls of a listed 17th-century Jesuit church. It's the perfect place to spend a wellness weekend as a couple. The swimming pool is one of our favorites in Belgium. Here's our on-site video.

Our stay in this old church
We've stayed at the Quartier Latin several times and it's always a pleasure to come here. What we like best: the location in the heart of Marche, the wellness area with its divine indoor pool, the outdoor terrace (very popular in the region) and the excellent 2-storey restaurant.
The building that today houses Le Quartier Latin hotel dates back to the early XVIIᵉ century, when Jesuits from Huy taught at Marche-en-Famenne. The church was built between 1732 and 1740 in a characteristic Baroque style. Here's an old photograph of the building in the 20th century.
On-site communication is seamless in French, Dutch or English. The staff are very friendly and responsive to any problems. A special mention goes to Gaëlle on site, with whom we keep in constant contact, always very professional and welcoming.
The rooms
There are 70 elegant and very comfortable rooms and suites. Here are our favorites:
1 • Cosy Room • Photo • Photo
2 • Elegance Room • Photo • Photo
3 • Comfort Room • Photo • Photo
4 • Executive Suite • Photo • Photo
Depending on your choice, you’ll enjoy the following amenities: a plush king-size bed, a private bathroom with a whirlpool tub or shower, a Smart TV, elegant furnishings, Omnisens toiletries, and air conditioning.
Good to know: 4 bedrooms have whirlpool baths and only 1 has a designer island bath.
The restaurant with a terrace
For your meals, head to the Quartier Latin restaurant. The cuisine features the finest seasonal produce. It's also a welcoming place for the people of Marche-en-Famenne, who love to eat here. Try the traditional poultry vol-au-vent, served classic or à la royale with sweetbreads! For dessert, try the famous tarte café, the hotel's specialty for 30 years.
Weather permitting, the large outdoor terrace (the best in the region) is an extension of the restaurant, inviting you to enjoy a tasting session in a very pleasant setting. Here you can enjoy a quiet drink. Try the local gin Arduenna or the excellent beer from the nearby Minne brewery.
Every Friday and Saturday, the Quartier Latin dining room hosts Les Soirées Gourmandes, a 3-course meal. By reservation only, couples can enjoy elegant, romantic moments by candlelight, in a relaxed musical atmosphere. Expect to pay around €80, drinks included.
The breakfast buffet
In the morning, breakfast is served as a large buffet. On the menu: pastries, yogurt, fruit salad, fresh fruit, cold cuts and cheeses, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, soft-boiled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, grilled bacon, jam, La Pause Chocolat-thé spread, tart, apple pie, coffee, tea, fruit juice, Cava, ...
On Sundays, instead of just breakfast, enjoy a lavish brunch between noon and 4 p.m. The price is €72 per person, and you can eat as much as you like. Also included in the price: the daily appetizer, a selection of wines (white, red, and rosé), water, soft drinks, coffee, and tea.
The spa and its pool
The hotel's main highlight is its wellness center, open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. In a serene and modern setting, enjoy the pool with a waterfall, the sauna, the Mediterranean steam room, the relaxation area, and the herbal tea lounge.
Towels and slippers are provided. The staff limits the number of people allowed in at one time, which is great.
Our advice
- Always book direct to benefit from better prices and more flexible cancellation conditions.
- Book from Sunday to Thursday if possible. It's quieter, cheaper and the team is fully focused on you.
- Celebrating a birthday during your stay? Book from Sunday to Thursday and specify that it's your birthday. A bottle of cava will be waiting for you in your room. Note: your identity card will be checked at check-in.
- Specify that you would like a quiet, romantic room with a view to the rear, rather than to the terrace at the front. This can be very busy, especially on sunny days.
- If you book an Executive Suite, be aware that some have a whirlpool bath in addition to the walk-in shower. Don't hesitate to ask if this is something you like.
- Reserve your restaurant table (ask for a round table near the window, they're the best) and your spa slot as far in advance as possible, so you can relax and forget about it.
If it's raining or snowing, the following facilities are available: plaids and umbrellas at reception, bath balls sold at the spa if your room has a bath, and a few self-service board games.
