Our stay

We've slept there, and I can't tell you how incredible it is. For us, it's one of the most beautiful cabins in Belgium. Every detail has been thought through.

What we liked best:

Arrival at Carole and Bertrand's

The cabin is located in a peaceful setting on the vast Petit Bomal estate. Carole, Betrand and their 3 children left everything behind to take over and restore the farm at the center of the estate. We've been lucky enough to stay here and have so many fond memories, starting with the guided tour given by Bertrand, who is passionate and full of energy.

On the day of your reservation, you can access and return to the cabin 100% independently, thanks to a key box. You're on the banks of a river and opposite an orchard, away from the farm. That's great! Private parking right in front of the cabin.

The cabin by the water

Inside, you'll enjoy the following amenities: king-size bed with hotel-quality linens, covered Nordic bath heated by a wood fire (you can use it all year round), private bathroom with Meraki welcome products, hairdryer, fur throughout, fully-equipped kitchen, Italian-style coffee, tea and basic condiments to make you feel right at home.

Did you notice the trunk in the center of the hut? It's clearly visible in the 1st photo above. It's wood from a local ash tree over 400 years old... Betrand salvaged it and treated it with the utmost care. That's the kind of detail we appreciate. Another example is the 100% natural insulation, which lets the cabin breathe (like the pores in your skin) and gives you a sense of well-being.

When it rains or snows, the atmosphere becomes magical. There's a wood-burning stove, plaids, books and board games. There's a large bay window with panoramic views of the orchard and river. From the bed, you can also watch the stars through this large window in the ceiling.

When night falls, the cabin is incredibly cosy. Darkening linen blinds and curtains ensure a perfect night's sleep.

Tip: Pack a few candles in your luggage, some pretty candle holders, and a Bluetooth speaker to listen to some music.

Breakfast (optional)

In the morning, a delicious breakfast is available for an additional €28 for two people. It is quietly served on the terrace.

On the menu: 6 slices of fresh farm-baked bread, 4 fresh eggs cooked to your liking, local organic cold cuts and cheese, chocolate spread, jam, farm-fresh honey, 2 homemade yogurts, 2 apple juices, 2 oranges (to juice or eat as is), and 2 pieces of fruit.

In the heart of the Belgian Ardennes

La Cabane de Petit Bomal is ideally located just north of Durbuy, in Bomal, in the Belgian Ardennes. If you're looking for a great place to eat, Betrand warmly recommends Gastropub Gaspard in Barvaux. Durbuy, overlooked by its castle, is a tiny medieval town full of charm. Parking is very easy, right at the entrance to the town.

Another original idea for eating out: Food Box Lindt in Barvaux. It's about a 5-minute drive away. It's like a vending machine, only with takeaway food. Here's a photo taken on the spot. Everything is fresh and of high quality. On the menu: marinated scampi, breaded chicken, teriyaki salmon or bacon quiche. It costs around €10 per person, and there are even desserts. Payment by card.
