Our experience

We had the opportunity to spend a memorable night here at the Martin Pêcheur. It remains a memory etched in our minds.

A little while later, we came back a second time to take some photos and have coffee with the owners.

On-site arrival

At the end of a country road, you’ll discover the warm welcome of the “ Nids des Marais.” You’ll check in on your own: pick up a basket labeled with the name of your “nest,” along with practical instructions and directions to your accommodations.

The reception area operates on a self-service basis. There are drinks, a few snacks, free coffee, and handy items such as boots and umbrellas. Meals can also be ordered depending on what’s available. Payment for purchases is handled through a simple system based on trust.

It's a bit of a cliché, but the place is just perfect for it.

Foulques and Héloïse, the owners, live on site and can be reached if needed. They speak French, Dutch, and English. We’ve been in constant contact with them for many years. Their presence ensures a warm welcome while giving you complete freedom.

Each cabin has its own unique location and relationship to the landscape. The cabins are spaced out around the pond and are not visible from one another. This allows you to enjoy your private space, away from the prying eyes of other visitors.

All the nests accommodate up to two people and feature a private terrace, comfortable heated bedding, dry toilets, and heating for colder weather. Some accommodations also have a wood-burning stove.

A table allows you to enjoy your meal while taking in the view. The space is designed to offer warm, simple comfort, allowing you to fully enjoy the view of the marsh.

"La Mésange" is the closest accommodation to the reception area and, as a result, the least private, but some people actually prefer this proximity to the reception and the owners. The farthest and most secluded is "Le Milan Royal," and it's also one of our favorites.

If you're staying at the Martin Pêcheur, the view of the stream is a real change of scenery.

Good to know: The accommodations currently have neither showers nor bathtubs. An outdoor rinsing area is available when the ground is not frozen. Drinking water is available on site. To help preserve the natural environment, visitors are asked not to use soap or shampoo in the rinsing area.

Nestled in the heart of an area of high biological value, les Nids des Marais these sites let you discover a living ecosystem. During your stay, you may be lucky enough to spot a kingfisher, a green-winged teal, a red-backed kite, and many other marsh birds.

You can rent e-bikes to explore the area or book a professional photo shoot.

For dining nearby, Foulques and Héloïse especially recommend the restaurant Entre Nous, in the village of Biron, within walking distance of les Nids des Marais, as well as Au Gré des Saisons in Achet.

Another idea: We tried Top Sushi in downtown Ciney. You can pick up your sushi or eat there. The manager is very friendly, and the ingredients are incredibly fresh. Try the Japanese lemonade—it's really good.
