Our stay

We stayed at Woodpecker Lodge and it was a truly relaxing getaway. The intimacy of the cottage in the middle of the woods and the cocooning atmosphere really appealed to us. We were able to build a fire, enjoy the jacuzzi, work on Let's Go My Love and chat over a glass of wine. A real moment of pleasure, especially with good music playing in the background.

Vincent, the passionate 25-year-old owner, built the chalet from A to Z with the help of his dad. After moving to Haute-Savoie to build mountain chalets, he thought it would be a shame not to find the unique charm of these homes in Belgium. And so the project was born. During construction, he was particularly keen to use ecological materials and local wood.

These days, Vincent is very responsive on WhatsApp if you have any concerns. He speaks French, English, German, and a little Dutch. We've been in constant contact with him for several years. He's really nice.

The chalet

Set in the middle of fields, Woodpecker Lodge is surrounded by magnificent deciduous trees. It overlooks the Amblève valley. Entrance is by secret code. One parking space is available. There are no close neighbors and no one can see you. It's really intimate, even from the jacuzzi on the terrace. That's something we really appreciate.

Here are the amenities available to you in the chalet: a comfortable bedroom on the mezzanine with a king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need, a Marshall speaker, a private bathroom with Meraki toiletries that smell wonderful, a terrace with an outdoor hot tub and views of the surrounding nature, and a barbecue. There is no Wi-Fi.

The insulation has been very well done, so the temperature inside is very pleasant. In spring and summer, if you're building a fire, we advise you to leave the logs out for at least 2 hours before going to bed, otherwise you may feel a little warm in bed.

If it's raining or snowing outside, the atmosphere becomes magical! You have all the comforts you need: cast-iron wood-burning stove with visible flame, plaidcocooning plaids and bathrobes, a plastic bin for your hiking boots when you return from the outdoors, candles, a few board games and a raclette machine.

Woodpecker Lodge is a real return to basics, a magical place if you like the rustle of the wind in the trees, the cows that sometimes come to say hello, the song of the birds in the early morning, the calm of the forest at dusk and the fire that crackles in the fireplace while it's snowing outside.

The extras

There are plenty of drinks waiting for you in the fridge and kitchen: local gin from Ard'Gin, champagne, cava and some very good beers from the nearby Brasserie de Bellevaux. 2 drinks (softs or beers) are free if you mention Let's Go My Love when booking. You can make your choice and leave the money on site.

Location

You're in the heart of the Amblève valley, not far from the Trôs Marets and Bayon valleys. By car, Malmedy is 5 minutes away and the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack 15 minutes. Nearby attractions include Stavelot Abbey, Reinhardstein Castle and Lake Butgenbach.
