The arrival
Once there, you’ll discover a picture-perfect landscape. Situated on the shores of Lake Lugano, the former fishing village of Vico Morcote (population 370) is one of the most photographed spots in Ticino and one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. If you arrive by train, you may catch the scent of magnolias, lemons, and oranges as soon as you step off the train.
The Relais Castello di Morcote is located in the ecclesiastical part of the village, on the heights, at the end of a winding road, near the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso. The hotel's name derives from Morcote Castle, the only medieval fortress in the Lugano area and the heart of the Gianini family's vineyards, where top-quality wine, olive oil and honey are produced.
When you walk through the hotel door, you're immersed in a sumptuous vintage ambience with beautiful communal areas, including the large lounge with fireplace. The atmosphere here is elegant and hors du temps. Real care is taken with every detail. Many original architectural features have been preserved, such as cement tiles and painted coffered ceilings.
The rooms
There are just 12 rooms, ranging in size from 15 to 50m², and each one is unique. The materials are noble (we particularly love the brass) and the beds are made-to-measure in the Ticino region. Most rooms offer a balcony and a magnificent view of the lake. Designer Francesca Neri Antonella was responsible for the decor. She found the perfect balance between patina and contemporary design, with an Asian touch.

Celebrating a special occasion? The Junior Suite Lake is our most romantic room and our favorite. It offers breathtaking views from the bed and bath.
Catering
In the morning, breakfast is served on the terrace of the hotel restaurant (La Sorgente) overlooking the lake. You can sit down comfortably on the long stone tables, typical of the region, while enjoying local, quality products.
In the evening, head for the second restaurant: La Vicania. It's a more gastronomic place, immersed in the greenery of the vineyard, next to the hotel. The location is exceptional, it's so quiet. The garden is perfectly manicured, the staff are adorable and the food is delicious.
