Krone Regensberg is a beautiful Hotel 5* located in the medieval village of Regensberg, around 25 minutes from Zurich, Switzerland. The hotel has been selected (and it's easy to see why) by the Michelin Guide. It's a small property surrounded by fruit trees and flowers, with just 9 rooms. You feel like a guest in an authentic private castle.
We advise you to book your stay at Krone Regensberg via Booking.com, which often offers free cancellation. Send us a message on Instagram if you go, it would make us super happy.
Regensberg was founded in 1244 by Baron Lüthold V of Regensberg, who ruled over much of what is now Canton Zurich. The location had several advantages: it was a natural fortress, close to a trade route, and there was enough limestone to build a village. Lüthold also had a castle built on top of the hill, complete with moat and drawbridge.
Surrounded by vineyards, the fortified village is now one of Switzerland's hidden gems. It's a delight to stroll through its quiet streets, especially in the early morning and on full-moon nights. In autumn, the atmosphere is magical. There are many beautiful panoramic views over the Zurich countryside.
When you enter the hotel, you're immediately pleasantly surprised. The staff are discreet, attentive, simple and stylish.
There are 9 rooms in the bohemian-chic hotel. Depending on the room you choose, you'll enjoy the following amenities: king-size bed with divine comfort, private bathroom with rain shower and/or deep-soaking bathtub, welcome products from Aesop, whitewashed floors and walls, collectibles, warm, earthy tones and views of the Alps or the Regensberg tower.
In the evening, a memorable evening awaits you at the hotel's gourmet restaurant: Taverne. The map is small and sophisticated, with many local ingredients (notably from the nearby Loohof organic farm) and some fabulous wines. Chef Ale Mordasini offers a unique 4 to 7-course menu that's a must-try. He particularly likes to play with herbs and fruit to bring out the freshness of his dishes.
The hotel is a 25-minute drive north of Zurich. La tour du château is right next door, offering breathtaking 360° views over the Zurich Unterland to the Alps. If you're discovering the region, Zurich is an exciting city to explore, albeit an expensive one. We love strolling along the Limmat River in the middle of the old town. It's a very romantic place, especially in the evening.
