Our stay
We stayed at the River Lodge and particularly appreciated the hotel's quiet location, the theme of each room and the quality of the facilities! There are also plenty of walks in the area. Great value for money in the region.
The concept
Newlyweds Rodolphe and Amandine embarked on a rather crazy project in 2015: to open a hotel in the Maredsous region. In addition to the theme of each room, the building also has its own history. Historically, it's an old mill. And it's also the second building to be constructed in the village.
Imagine sailing from jungle to desert, all with your head in the stars. Or discover a snowy, wintry atmosphere. That's exactly what the River Lodge offers.
The arrival
On site, you'll be greeted by Amandine or one of the receptionists. All are very friendly and efficient. Communication is possible in French, Dutch or English.

We were lucky enough to be able to visit all the rooms. Our 2 favorites are La Cabane du Trappeur and Au Coeur des Montagnes. They're the largest and include a bathtub. We also really like Strass & Élégance.
Each room features a king-size double bed with high-quality bedding, a private bathroom with Damana toiletries, and a sitting area with a dining table for two. There's a minibar generously stocked with softs, white wine, rosé wine, red wine, champagne and plenty of snacks for a romantic aperitif. Teas and coffee are complimentary, as is a welcome bottle of water.
Weather
If it's raining or snowing outside, umbrellas are available at reception. You can also borrow board games on Saturday evenings and by prior arrangement. Finally, each room is equipped with a Smart TV, so you can easily connect to Netflix, for example.
Formulas and extras
- The Romance Pack (book 48 hours in advance): on arrival, a large bottle of champagne awaits you, along with rose petals and a small treat!
- Apéro du terroir: fine beers and delicious cheese from Maredsous Abbey await you in your room for a royal aperitif.
- Le petit déjeuner du meunier: with freshly baked viennoiseries and warm breads, fruit juice, yogurt, fruit, jam, cheese, ham and other goodies.
- The "L'écrevisse riante" breakfast: the same as above, but with little gustatory surprises such as scrambled eggs, bacon, pastries and bubbles!
- Le festin du moulin (book 48 hours in advance): this platter includes several hot and cold culinary creations with smoked salmon or foie gras, for example. A real treat!
If you take a breakfast, it is left outside your room between 9 and 9:30 am and you can enjoy it in privacy.
The hotel also offers in-room massages: you can choose between a 30-minute back and neck massage or a 60-minute body massage. It is essential to book your massage 48 hours in advance, subject to the masseuse's availability.
Location
The River Lodge is located in the Belgian village of Maredret, at the end of a romantic road. It's a rural village that has retained its authentic character, with bluestone buildings and a Benedictine monastery. There's plenty to do in the surrounding area, including walks on the nearby Ravel river (bicycles are available for hire), a visit to Maredsous Abbey or a tour of the town of Dinant and its Citadel.

Arrival at the River Lodge is from 5pm to 7pm and departure is possible until 11am.

No, but you can have breakfast in your room. In the evening, you can order a delicious culinary platter "Le Festin du Moulin" which includes several hot and cold culinary creations such as smoked salmon and foie gras, as well as a dessert for €35 per person. Organic and seasonal foods are favoured. Don't forget to book your tray at least 48 hours in advance.
The River Lodge offers bikes for hire, so you can enjoy the nearby Ravel and the beautiful surrounding countryside. The Maredret region is full of activities and places to visit: the traditional village of Maredret, the Abbey of Maredret, the Abbey of Maredsous, Floreffe, the ruins and park of Poilvache in Houx, les ruines du château de Montaigle, the Citadel of Dînant, or the gardens of Annevoie. If you're in the mood for adventure, we recommend taking a ride on a draisine along the Molignée, kayaking down the Lesse or accrobranching.
