Domaine de Locguénolé is a 4* hotel of rare romanticism, nestled in a wooded park 15 minutes' drive from Lorient in Brittany. The view over the Blavet inlet is worthy of a Maupassant novel. Without doubt one of the most beautiful views on Let's Go My Love. Discreet luxury, Breton style. Here's our on-the-spot video.

Our stay
We had the opportunity to spend 3 nights in room 305, which is quietly located just across from the pool. What a stay! What we liked best: the totally quiet location, the wooded park by the water and the gargantuan breakfast.
An exceptional setting
Domaine de Locguénolé is nestled in a green setting of over 100 hectares, on the banks of the Blavet river. This exceptional natural setting blends ancient forest, English parkland, secret paths and a small private beach. The atmosphere is both romantic and wild, the perfect place to disconnect from the world.
From the fresh flowers in the rooms to the antique lanterns in the grounds, every detail seems to have been lovingly placed. Nothing is ostentatious, everything is just right. This is what gives the place that discreet charm that is all too often forgotten in more standardized luxury hotels.
Dating back to the 19th century, the château has long belonged to the de La Sablière family, who have preserved the spirit of their family home. Each room features antiques, portraits of ancestors, period furniture... Nothing has been left to chance. Even after 3 years of renovation, the soul of the place remains palpable. You'll be seduced by the elegant blend of colonial influences and Indian tapestries.
The rooms
The estate consists of four unique buildings housing 44 rooms and suites: the 19th-century château, the 18th-century Breton manor house, the Orangery near the pool and gardens, and the Club, which was once the stables. Not to mention the hotel's three unusual accommodations. Here are a few of our favorite rooms:

We inherited room 305, in the Orangerie. This room is located in a separate, very quiet building. There's just une autre chambre in the same building. Very pleasant view of the wooded park and swimming pool.
Depending on the room you choose, you'll enjoy the following amenities: king or queen size bed, sea, park or pool view, private terrace, bathroom with walk-in shower or bathtub, bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer, Sothys welcome products, lounge, Smart TV, minibar, coffee machine, safe and wifi.
Good to know: rooms are not air-conditioned. This is very common in Brittany, but it's better to know, especially in high summer.
Breakfast
In the early morning, breakfast at the Domaine is a real feast. There is excellent coffee, fluffy pancakes, homemade pastries still warm from the oven, a wide selection of golden-brown pastries, not to mention homemade jams and spreads. Savory options are also available: eggs in all their forms, fine charcuterie, aged cheeses, fresh oysters, smoked fish, and a selection of raw vegetables.
The restaurants
Domaine de Locguénolé is home to 2 distinctly different restaurants. Maison Alyette pays tribute to the great French classics in an elegant setting, with refined cuisine featuring Breton products. Meticulous service, impeccable preparation and a hushed atmosphere invite you to enjoy a memorable culinary experience.
L'Inattendu, the Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, is housed in a splendid glass roof with a magnificent view over the countryside. Chef Yann Maget's cuisine is a blend of ocean and Breton terroir. Some examples: langoustines flambéed with peppers and passion fruit; Saint-Pierre zucchini, saffron and ribot milk; or pigeon with turnips, pistachio and rhubarb, tea, milk and flowers.
The spa
A visit to Spa Macha is a must during your stay. It is located in the former stables. It features a 17-meter indoor pool, sauna, steam room, solarium and 6 treatment rooms. You can also reserve a private suite (optional) with fireplace, round duo bath, sauna and terrace.
When the weather's fine, take time out to relax by the outdoor pool in the wooded grounds. It's the perfect place to read, sunbathe or swim a few laps.
