La Balade des Gnomes is a hotel like you've never seen before. It's located in Heyd, in the Ardennes, near Durbuy, Belgium. Discover 12 themed rooms in an atmosphere worthy of Pirates of the Caribbean. More than a hotel, it's a concept, a daydream and a return to childhood!

We were lucky enough to spend a memorable night at la Balade des Gnomes And so we can tell you about it. Our room was Casa Tireli-Rela but we were able to visit all the rooms. What impressed us throughout the stay: the impeccable cleanliness of the rooms, the feeling of being in another world and the kindness of the team, starting with Sanne and Gilles.

As soon as you arrive, you'll discover a whole universe: gargoyles, a huge wooden horse, a few sculptures and a dozen magical little characters hidden in the trees.

There are 12 rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. The names are evocative and transport you to another world: Les Étoiles du Désert with its 1001 nights atmosphere, La Légende des Trolls which transports you to a magical forest or L'île de Macquaire which offers you the chance to board a legendary sailing ship.

1 - La Cabane dans la forêt - A real return to elemental energies, intimate room, we like it a lot and it's one of the cheapest - From 145€ - Photo - 🌲

2 - Les Étoiles du Désert - Moroccan ambiance, starry sky, dromedary, it's not our favorite but it's sure to please - From 150€ - Photo - 🐪

3 - Hutta Di Zobabou-bou - Land of Africa and travel memories, we love the sitting area and bathtub - From 150€ - Photo - 🛖

4 - Le Désespoir du Moine - Monastic and colorful atmosphere, small private terrace, it's not our favorite but we love the glass roof behind the bed and the desk area - From 170€ - Photo - 🏺

5 - La Casa Tireli-Rela - This is the one we tested and loved! It's a duplex, you'd think you were in an Andalusian village, there's a superb whirlpool bath, a sauna and a small private terrace outside - From 250€ - Photo - 🫏

6 - The Legend of the Trolls - Enter a magical, spellbinding forest. One of our favorites. This is undoubtedly the hotel's most iconic room, with a multitude of little details - From 170€ - Photo - 🧌

7 - On a Quarter Moon - Space atmosphere, lunar capsule equipped with a bubble bath, double bed in a lunar vehicle and starry skies. Not our favorite room, but it's the cheapest and many will love the theme - From 135€ - Photo - 🚀

8 - Macquarie Island - This is the most unusual island in the hotel! It's like stepping into Pirates of the Caribbean. The Irish bar is wonderful. The bed is installed in a sailboat partially submerged in water. The idea is brilliant, but some may be disturbed by the noise of the water and the instability of the bed, while others will love it here - From 240€ - Photo - ⛵

9 - La Route du Vin - This is the hotel's most spacious suite, you step into a real Alsatian vineyard, there's a bubble bath and we love the poetic bed. It's one of our favorite rooms - From 250€ - Photo - 🍇

10 - The Trojan Horse - It's the big horse set up outside! We visited it and love it. Small private terrace and pellet stove. Enter the lair of the beast and discover an incredible medieval atmosphere on 2 levels - From 280€ - Photo - 🐴

11 - La Roulotte Latcho-Drom - Spend a night like a fortune-teller. It's very well appointed and the roulotte has several advantages over other rooms: it's secluded, there's a pellet stove, a small private garden and it's the only room that accepts pets - From 165€ - Photo - 🚂

12 - La Tanière de Chouraveur - This is our latest room. We haven't visited it, but it looks top-notch. Explore a magical underground world and discover all the enchanted creatures that occupy this real cave - From 240€ - Photo - 🧚🏻‍♂️

When it's raining or snowing outside, the atmosphere is really pleasant. Plaids, candles and board games are freely available at reception.

In the morning, a hearty breakfast is delivered directly to the comfort of your room. It's always included in the price of your reservation. On the menu: fresh bread, small pastries, fried or scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice, cheese, cold cuts and yoghurt.

Looking for a romantic evening out? Right next door to the hotel is La Marmite des Trolls, a semi-gastronomic restaurant. Housed in an old mansion full of mystery and charm, you'll discover a decor in keeping with the rooms and a delicious cuisine combining original and refined flavors! Ask for a table by the fire and you're off to remake the world in love.

La Balade des Gnomes is located in the Ardennes, just 15 minutes from Durbuy, Belgium. It's a real pleasure to stroll through the medieval old town of Durbuy, nestled in a valley and overlooked by its castle. It's just a pity that the place can sometimes be a little too touristy. If you're looking for a more authentic destination, we also recommend Marche-en-Famenne, a 25-minute drive away.
