We visited the Manoir du Guern and immediately fell in love. Bernard was kind enough to tell us all about the history of the place, while leafing through the renovation photo album with us. A true family adventure. It used to be a presbytery, the home of the village priest.
As you drive up the main driveway, you can see the manor house, protected by its moat, in a veritable natural setting. If it's foggy, the atmosphere is almost mystical. Once inside, admire the noble materials such as hemp lime, old terracotta floor tiles, lime plaster, whitewash and old woodwork. It's very warm and authentic.
There are 4 bedrooms: Saint Goustan, Étel, Nostang and Sainte Barbe. Each has a privileged view of the orchard to the rear, the moat and the surrounding countryside. Particular attention has been paid to furnishings: top-of-the-range king-size bedding, private bathroom, hospitality products, workstation and 43-inch television with mirror screen.
One of the highlights of a stay at Manoir du Guern is undoubtedly breakfast. It's served in the bright dining room overlooking the orchard. Everything is homemade. On the menu: scrambled eggs, fresh bread, local cheese, jams, charcuterie, far breton, Bernard's lemon cake (a real treat!), crumble and viennoiseries.
What we also like: the wellness area flooded with light, with a pool heated to 28°C in which you can swim in all seasons. There's also a sauna. In summer, you can stroll through the wooded park, play pétanque, read in the shade of a cherry tree in the garden or even fish for carp in the moat. Fishing rods are available.
Le Manoir du Guern is located in Morbihan, France, a 20-minute drive from the medieval town of Auray. Nearby, Port Saint-Goustan awaits your visit. This is where Benjamin Franklin set foot in 1776, sent by America to meet Louis XVI. The old quays are remarkably well preserved. Looking for a stroll? Ask Bernard for his favorite itinerary from Nostang!
