Le Mas d'Aigret is an unusual 3* hotel located at the foot of the famous medieval town of Les Baux-de-Provence, in the south of France. It boasts a panoramic terrace with breathtaking views over the Baux valley and the Alpilles massif. We have a weakness (to put it mildly) for the restaurant's vaulted dining room and the 2 characterful rooms carved directly into the rock.
We chose 2 videos from Youtube and TikTok:
- In the heart of Provence
- The medieval town of Les Baux
We advise you to book your stay at Mas d'Aigret in advance. You can also find other accommodation on Booking.com and even discover romantic hotels recommended for their atmosphere.
Good to know before you start: Mas d'Aigret is open from late March to mid-November, and rates start at around €180 minimum per night. The owners are dog-friendly and accept pets at an additional cost of €20 per day.
As soon as you arrive on site, you'll discover a first-class environment. The hotel lies at the foot of the rocky cliff at the top of which stands the fortified town of Les Baux-de-Provence. The hotel is just 500 meters from Les Baux. Don't miss the Château des Baux, a veritable stone vessel!
The team's welcome is warm, friendly and all smiles. Eric and Marieke are the janitors and owners of the establishment. They are passionate about preserving its soul and character.
There are 16 charming rooms, ranging in size from 17m² to 39m² for the largest. Of these, 10 offer an outdoor terrace or balcony with a view. If you're looking for a romantic room, we recommend you choose one of the 2 troglodyte rooms, embedded in the rock. One has a whirlpool bathtub, while the other has a waterfall shower: water gushes straight out of the rock!
For the record, these spaces in the rock are known as troglodyte spaces. This tradition dates back to prehistoric times. Le Mas d'Aigret plays with this thousand-year-old heritage in the most beautiful of ways, and not just in the rooms.
For your meals, head to the hotel restaurant, which offers refined, succulent dishes prepared according to the seasons! Once again, the team is very friendly and responsive. Dishes on offer include: cod with chanterelle mushrooms or half duck breast cooked at low temperature, pan-fried escalope of foie gras with morel mushroom sauce.
Breakfast is faultless. It's served as a generous buffet with savory and sweet options, local honey and produce, freshly squeezed orange juice and scrambled eggs cooked to order. It costs €19 per person per day.
If it's still a little chilly outside, ask for a table in the vaulted dining room, near the imposing stone fireplace with its crackling fire. Quite an atmosphere! And an old-fashioned charm that's much appreciated.
When the weather's fine, head for the outdoor terrace. In the sunshine, accompanied by the song of the cicadas, let yourself be charmed by the panoramic view over the Vallée des Baux, the Alpilles and the Château des Baux. A refreshing dip in the heated pool is also highly recommended. The pool is located away from the Mas, in the shade of the estate's four-hundred-year-old oak trees.
Mas d'Aigret is located in the south of France, between Avignon and Arles, just a few minutes' walk from Les Baux-de-Provence. This prestigious town, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking a sumptuous, thousand-year-old landscape of vineyards and olive groves, is one of France's most beautiful villages. A private road leads directly from the hotel.
There's a memorable activity just a 10-minute walk from the hotel: Les Carrières de Lumière. This museum is housed in a former limestone quarry. The immense walls of matt-white rock provide the perfect backdrop for a veritable sound and light show. As the exhibition is immersive, you often find yourself in the middle of moving paintings. Striking and magnificent.
