Les Cabanes des Grands Cépages (Coucoo Cabanes) is a fabulous eco-domain located on the shores of Lac de Lionne, near Avignon in the Vaucluse region of France. This wild environment is home to 20 luxurious floating cabins, on stilts or planted with vegetation. It's a secret, unspoilt corner of paradise. There's no noise on the horizon, apart from birdsong and cicadas.

We had the opportunity to stay here (in cabin n°19 on the map below) and meet the whole team, especially Floralie, the very friendly reservations manager. What enthusiasm! Our overnight stay was perfect, and we loved cycling around the estate. The weather was divine...
First and foremost, it's important to know that Coucoo Cabanes embodies a true art of living, where a warm welcome is combined with a profoundly eco-responsible vision. Each cabin is designed to offer a unique, immersive experience, while respecting the surrounding environment. The materials used are sustainable, the layout is respectful of nature, and the energy choices are geared towards sobriety.
It's tourism on a human scale, committed, sincere and inspiring. Ambitious yes, but not at any price. It resonates with us.
Some useful information to get you started: prices start at around €195 per night for 2 people, with breakfast always included. Here's a map of the estate (approx. 40 hectares) to help you find your way around.
When you take the road from Sorgues towards the cabins, it's virtually impossible to guess that a large natural estate is hidden here. It really is a hidden, unsuspected paradise. It's astonishing!
The keys to the cabins are handed over on site from 4pm. The welcome is warm and ritualized: someone welcomes you, invites you to sit down and offers you a drink. Anne-Sophie took care of us perfectly and explained all the details of our stay. You can tell that the team enjoys working here, or else the illusion is perfect.
Planning a surprise? Almost anything is possible, and the team is your playmate. Don't hesitate to make your request during booking: blindfolded arrival, floral decoration, cake in the cabin, petal trail or photographer service, for example. If the concept is to remain a secret until the lakeside hut is discovered, make this clear during booking. The team is used to it, and will play along mischievously.
There are 20 cabins in all: 7 floating cabins accessible by boat or pontoon, 11 cabins on stilts high up on the lake shore and 2 vegetated cabins that are completely camouflaged.
Depending on the cabin chosen, you will have the following amenities: a 15 to 25 m² room with a double bed, a terrace up to 25 m² with a Nordic bath heated between 35°C and 40°C, a bathroom with a mist shower to reduce consumption, a minibar, reverse cycle air conditioning, and electricity. Here is a video on site with a view of the lake.
We recommend using the Nordic bath at sunset and then watching the starry sky. A truly suspended moment, free from light pollution.
A few comments:
- Here are our 5 favorite cabins on the estate: Elixir, Essentielle, Échappée, Paradis et Inspiration.
- These 5 cabins are the most recent and are located on the left-hand side of the estate, where the water is slightly more crystalline(our photo).
- We slept in the "Parenthèse" cabin, which was also very good, to be honest.
- Only 2 cabins accept dogs: Cosmos and Lavande
- Cabins are spaced at least 80 meters apart
- They are built with sustainable materials such as untreated wood and French Douglas fir, sourced locally.
On the right-hand side of the estate, we also love the "Utopie" floating hut, which is totally self-sufficient in energy. It's the only one on the estate. It is equipped with a bathroom with water recovery system, toilets and a shower treated by phytodepuration. Solar panels generate electricity.
Bicycles are available for hire. The estate is a little jewel to discover. The flora is rich: poplars, umbrella oaks, reeds, pampas, hornbeams, elms, thyme, sage, lavender and even vines near the reception area. And the fauna is not to be outdone: numerous species of butterflies, warblers, herons, beavers and birds of prey among others.
If you feel like swimming and relaxing, an infinity pool is available near reception, in a privileged setting. Please note that swimming in the lake is not permitted.
In the morning, a breakfast basket is delivered to your cabin's pontoon. This is included in your reservation. On the menu, you'll find a selection of red fruit granola, cottage cheese, pain au chocolat, jam, honey, butter, fresh bread, fruit, and apple juice. Enjoy in bed or on the sunny terrace.
There are plenty of extras. Some examples: a brunch basket with late checkout at 1 p.m. instead of 11 a.m., Tomme de Chèvre raclette, winemaker's fondue, or even a massage. We recommend adding a good bottle of wine.
Room service is available until 11pm. Just call reception and they'll deliver whatever you need. There's also an in-room mini-bar with a few bottles.
All products are carefully selected from local partners in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Baskets must be ordered at least 72 hours before your stay, and are delivered to the foot of your cabin with all the necessary equipment: crockery, raclette or fondue equipment, for example.
Les Cabanes des Grands Cépages is located in the heart of Provence, near Mont Ventoux, the Luberon and the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards.
Avignon is a 20-minute drive away. During the Middle Ages, the city-fortress was one of the most influential in the Western world. Today, the Palais des Papes is the largest Gothic palace in the world and one of the most visited monuments in France. Don't miss its main courtyard, which is transformed into a stage during the summer Avignon Festival.
Here are some of our favorites nearby: the Colorado Provençal in the heart of the Luberon, the Carrières des Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Joucas, Roussillon and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
Each place left us with a unique memory: the Colorado Provençal for its spectacular ochre landscapes worthy of the Far West, the Carrières des Lumières for their immersive magic perfect on a rainy day, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse for its mysterious spring and freshness, Joucas for its calm and preserved authenticity, Roussillon for its colorful streets and sunny charm, and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue for its brocantes and romantic canals.
PS: if it's full, here are the 5 "Coucoo Cabanes" estates on Let's Go My Love. It's the same team, the same quality, but the location is unique each time.
