Our experience here
During our many trips to France, we had the chance to spend a night at Les Cabanes de l'Orvanne, which offered a complete change of scenery. We were welcomed by Laura and had a long chat with the owner, Tristan.
What we liked best:
- The spectacular view from the cabins along the shore (video)
- The wooden walkways that take you across the marshes
- The breathtaking diversity of flora and fauna
- The cabins, perfectly secluded from one another
- The delicious local products
- The warm Nordic bath upon your arrival
We recommend traveling light (a bag rather than a suitcase) and bringing the following items: shampoo, slippers to enjoy the terrace, good hiking shoes, insect repellent, and a second bath towel.
Cabins in the great outdoors
As soon as you arrive, it’s hard not to fall in love with the estate: ponds, marshes, open meadows, and wooded areas come together to form a rare and romantic landscape.
There is a wide variety of wildlife here: foxes, deer, wild boars, badgers, squirrels, red dragonflies, frogs, and about 200 species of birds (video), including swans, herons, and wild geese. During our stay, we were lucky enough to spot a mother fox who was just too cute...
The placement of the cabins was intentionally limited to the northern part of the property, which is the least ecologically sensitive. The natural waterways and islets, which serve as true havens for flora and fauna, have been carefully preserved.
The cabins are designed to offer a comfortable stay: electricity, a bathroom with a shower, bedding, heating, a terrace or outdoor living area, and a private heated hot tub.
They were designed to blend in as naturally as possible with their surroundings. Inside, we love the mix of natural materials, the play of light, and the local influences.
As a bit of trivia, Moret-sur-Loing is known as a favorite haunt of the Impressionist painters. This source of inspiration is reflected in the interiors of the cabins: shifting color palettes, the play of light filtering through the foliage, and shifting reflections on the water.
Here are the three types of cabins:
1 • Les Cabanes du Rivage • Photo • Photo
2 • Les Cabanes du Marais • Photo • Photo
3 • Les Cabanes du Coteau • Photo • Photo
We were able to visit almost all of the cabins. They're all worth seeing, but we recommend choosing a cabin by the water (video): those are the ones with the best views.
Depending on the cabin you choose, you’ll have the following amenities: a queen- or king-size bed with Tediber French bedding, a bathroom with an indoor and/or outdoor shower (very pleasant), a toilet, towels, bathrobes, a hair dryer, a living area facing large floor-to-ceiling windows, a microwave, a minibar, a De’Longhi coffee maker, a kettle, electric heating, and electricity.
Outside, you’ll enjoy a stunning terrace with a magical view and a private hot tub (video) heated to 40°C and made of 100% natural red cedar. It’s already warm when you arrive and stays warm at all times.
Dogs are allowed in all cabins for a fee of €25 per dog per night.
Life on the estate
Early in the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast in the comfort of your cabin. Breakfast is included in the price of your reservation.
On the menu: pastries, bread, delicious yogurt, fresh fruit juice (the apple juice is a favorite), jam, honey, and butter, plus your choice of hot drinks: coffee, tea, or hot chocolate! A brunch option is available with a late check-out at 1:00 p.m. instead of 11:00 a.m.
There are plenty of extras:
- Beer, cider, or wine aperitif
- Champagne aperitif
- Raclette with cheese, cold cuts, and potatoes
- Vegetarian raclette with cheese, vegetables, and potatoes
- Savoyard fondue with cheese, a touch of white wine, and bread
- Burgundian fondue with meat, sauces, and potatoes
- Classic or vegetarian catered dinner
- Picnic
If you're celebrating a special occasion with your partner, there are other special options available, including: a romantic package, a birthday cake, flower petals scattered throughout the cabin, or a bouquet of flowers upon arrival. Almost anything is possible, and the team is here to help make it happen.
Individual or couples massages are available in a specially equipped room near the front desk.
Tip: Late in the evening, we recommend settling down on the outdoor terrace near the reception cabin to watch the sunset. There’s also a small garden area available that might be a bit more private. If you don’t have a cabin right on the shore, this is definitely the way to go.
Just outside Paris
The estate is located in the southern part of Seine-et-Marne, just an hour from Paris.
A former royal town on the border between Île-de-France and Burgundy, Moret-sur-Loing is a charming destination on the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau. The town has preserved much of its medieval heritage, which can be explored while strolling through its narrow streets and along the Loing River, which flows through it.
Would you like to go for a walk? There’s a lovely 15-kilometer loop trail near the estate. It connects the villages of Écuelles, Montarlot, and Villecerf, and invites you to explore the surrounding meadows and marshes. The full loop takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to walk, but you can also choose to walk just part of it. Feel free to ask for directions when you make your reservation.
Just a 15-minute drive away, the Forest of Fontainebleau offers breathtaking natural beauty, with 25,000 hectares of untamed woodland, wind-sculpted rocks, and hidden gorges.
