Les Cabanes de Salagnac (Coucoo Cabanes) are six magnificent treehouses nestled deep in the forest in Corrèze, France. Limoges is 1 hour away, and Bordeaux is 2 hours and 30 minutes away. You’ll find yourself in the heart of an exceptional estate that blends history and contemporary architecture, right next to an elegant manor house. Luxury in the wild!

Our experience here

During our many trips to France, we had the opportunity to spend an enchanting night at Les Cabanes de Salagnac.

What we liked best:

- The spectacular view from our cabin
- The beauty of the property (especially around the pool)
- The cabins, which are perfectly secluded from one another
- A very warm welcome from the owners (Christelle and Sébastien)
- The delicious local products

We recommend traveling light (a bag rather than a suitcase) and bringing the following items: shower gel, shampoo, slippers to enjoy the terrace, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, and a second bath towel.

A pristine wilderness

First and foremost, it’s important to know that Coucoo Cabanes embodies a true way of life where a warm welcome goes hand in hand with a deeply eco-conscious vision.

Each cabin is designed to offer a unique and immersive experience, while respecting the surrounding environment. The materials are sustainable, the layouts are designed to blend with nature, and energy choices are focused on efficiency.

It's tourism on a human scale, committed, sincere and inspiring. Ambitious yes, but not at any price. It resonates with us.

The Salagnac estate, located in the heart of a ZNIEFF (Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic, and Floristic Interest) classified site, covers 40 hectares of rolling forests, dotted with clearings, secret paths, and small streams.

A true natural gem, it offers total immersion in a wild and unspoiled environment, where oak, beech, fir, redwood, and other trees blend together to create the perfect setting for hiking, contemplation, and escape, whatever the season.

Many animals can be spotted here: foxes, badgers, hares, wild boars, roe deer, red deer, and even wildcats. Christelle and Sébastien have even raised baby hedgehogs on the property.

There are two entrances on the premises, each with a parking lot available for your use. Here is a map of the property to help you find your way around when you arrive.

At the north entrance are the cottage, the majestic manor house, and the swimming pool. The pool is a magnificent feature. Lined with lounge chairs and umbrellas, it offers a superb view of the valley and the ruins of the manor house with its period stone columns. It is open from May through the end of September.

The 6 cabins are located near the south entrance. Keys for the cabins are handed out from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The cabins

The estate’s six contemporary cabins open up to the natural surroundings through their large floor-to-ceiling windows and are designed to offer a comfortable immersion in the forest. They were designed by interior architect Apolline Terrier. There is also a cottage that is better suited for families.

Here are a few notable cabins:

1 • Cedar Cabin • Photo
2 • Spruce Cabin • Photo
3 • Beech Cabin • Photo
4 • Pine Cabin • Photo

We were able to visit all the cabins. They're all worth seeing, but our favorite is "Hêtre," which is the most intimate.

All cabins feature the following amenities: queen-size bed, large picture windows, bathroom with shower, towels, sitting area, kitchenette equipped with microwave, mini-fridge, hotplates, small dishes, and coffee maker, terrace and deck chairs to enjoy the outdoors. The cabins do not have wood stoves, but are equipped with electric heaters for cold days.

The cabins do not have Wi-Fi, but you can connect to the internet in the reception cabin. Warm and welcoming, the reception cabin has a wood-burning stove, a seating area, a kitchen with a selection of local products for sale, and a semi-covered terrace.

Life on the estate

In the early morning, breakfast is included and delivered in a basket (except for the cottage). On the menu: pastries, sliced country bread from local bakeries, milk and yogurt from a local dairy, seasonal fruit, blueberry and red fruit jam from a local farm, butter, honey, apple juice from nearby orchards, and a hot drink!

For those with a hearty appetite, opt for the brunch basket with a late check-out at 1 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. It includes the same delicacies as the breakfast basket, plus trout, ham, and Corrèze cheese. The basket is delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

At the end of the day, enjoy a moment on your terrace with an appetizer basket filled with vegetable chips and terrine, accompanied by your choice of champagne, wine, beer, or cider. Expect to pay between €25 and €35 for this option.

There are several options available for your meals. The catering menu offers a starter, main course, cheese, and dessert for €68 for two people. You can also opt for the raclette menu or a delicious fondue in winter for €50 for two people.

Finally, the picnic basket includes terrine or country pâté, bread, sausage, an assortment of pickles, vegetables, gherkins, cherry tomatoes, and a dessert, also priced at €50 for two people.

If you'd like to extend this relaxing experience, we offer a variety of treatments and massages. Enjoy them in the peaceful, private setting of your cabin, or out on your terrace in the sunshine. Mathilde, Christelle and Sébastien's daughter, usually handles these services.

Want to surprise your partner for a birthday, marriage proposal, or just to make them happy? There are several options available: flower petals (€15), bouquet of flowers (€30), or romantic package (€80). If you want to keep it a secret until they discover the cabin, please specify this when booking. The team is used to this and will play along with a smile!

A strategic location

Les Cabanes de Salagnac are located in a place called Miers, in Corrèze, in southwestern France. Corrèze is full of magnificent unspoiled natural sites, rivers, and waterfalls. The Gimel waterfalls, just a 20-minute drive away, are one of the most beautiful natural sites in the region.

A little further away, 1 hour and 15 minutes by car, don't miss the Tours de Merle, a remarkable set of medieval fortifications perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Maronne valley.

Finally, the unmissable Lascaux Caves are located 1 hour and 20 minutes west by car. It is one of the most extraordinary prehistoric sites in the world. Discovered by chance in 1940, the cave has revolutionized our understanding of prehistoric art.

The original Lascaux Cave and Lascaux IV, its immersive replica open to the public, are only about 3 km apart. In just a few minutes, you can go from the historic site, which is closed to visitors, to a spectacular reproduction. A magnificent reconstruction with paintings that are more realistic than the real thing!
