A historic papal residence
From the Romans to the Papacy, from pre-Revolutionary France to the present day, La Mirande is a landmark in the city, closely linked to the history of Avignon. Here's an old map from 1618 to discover the location (the letter A on the map) of the building at the time.
The hotel, which was originally the residence (the “Livrée”) of a cardinal, was named after the famous hall in the Palais des Papes, La Mirande, which was furnished as early as the 14th century by papal representatives to receive high-ranking dignitaries visiting the city. It served as a hall for celebrations and banquets, lit by eight windows, with walls covered in gilded leather.
When you enter the hotel, you'll discover an authentic decor. Nearly 2 centuries of quintessential French art await your every step.
La Mirande offers an extraordinarily romantic atmosphere. Most rooms offer an exceptional view of the Palais des Papes. We also love the Belle Époque-style bathrooms, with Carrara Arabescato marble sunken bathtubs, Edwardian-style faucets and block-printed wallpaper.
Rooms and Suites
There are only 26 rooms and suites, all of which are sublime and inspired by the 18th century, a period of enchantment. Each is adorned with French printed fabrics, inviting guests on a journey: The Enchanted River, The Rose Garden, The Great Coral, The Bamboo, The Cornucopia, The Parrot, and The Learned Monkey. Such exotic names for these exquisite hangings. It's hard not to fall under their spell.
Here are the two categories of rooms and the suite:
1 • Deluxe Room • Photo
2 • Grand Deluxe Room • Photo
3 • The Suite • Photo
Depending on the room you choose, you will enjoy the following amenities: queen or king size bed, Smart TV, bathroom with bathtub and shower, separate toilet, hairdryer, air conditioning, telephone, radio, Wi-Fi, and safe.
Life in the hotel
In the early morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast in the privacy of your room, in the Louis XV Lounge, or, weather permitting, in the garden at the foot of the Palace. It is served as a full buffet featuring local and organic products, or à la carte.
In the subdued atmosphere of the Salle Cardinalice, the Michelin-starred restaurant opens its doors to you. Chef Florent Pietravalle creates a 4-, 6- or 8-course tasting menu, exploring the authentic flavors of Provence.
Three other culinary alternatives await you. First, discover the à la carte bistro "La Salle à Manger" in the Salon Louis XV or on the terrace. Next, we recommend "La Table Haute" in the former kitchen, where the Chef prepares the meal in front of the guests on a 19th-century wood-burning stove. Finally, don't miss "Le Mirage", a medieval-style tavern open only during the Avignon Festival.
In fine weather, the garden is a place of tranquility and contemplation. Gardener Marc Leonetti cultivates hedges, boxwoods, fruit trees, holm oaks, roses, laurels and aromatic herbs.
At the foot of the Palais des Papes
La Mirande is located in the heart of Avignon, Provence, at South of France. During the Middle Ages, the city-fortress was one of the most influential in the Western world. Today, the Palais des Papes is the largest Gothic palace in the world and one of the most visited monuments in France. Don't miss its main courtyard, which is transformed into a stage during the summer Avignon Festival.
