La Maison du Val is a beautiful 4* hotel tucked away on the edge of the Saint-Germain forest, just 30 minutes from Paris. It's a country house ideal for a stay between dream and reality, with a romantic 4-hectare wooded park and 3 Nordic baths.

Our stay

We had the opportunity to spend a wonderful night here, with superb weather as a bonus. What we liked most: the location surrounded by nature, the atmosphere inside, the excellent value for money, and the friendly staff. We booked our room on a Sunday evening, and it was peaceful, quiet, and free of crowds.

Prices start at around €185 per night, all-inclusive. That's pretty rare! What's included in the price: your overnight stay, an afternoon snack, the evening aperitif dinner (a mini buffet in the restaurant where everyone helps themselves), all-you-can-drink beverages, access to the Nordic baths, breakfast, and lots of activities.

The arrival

When you arrive by car, you'll come face to face with a grand, majestic house steeped in history. What was once Louis XIV's hunting lodge now welcomes you for a country retreat. Here's the map of the estate.

The rooms

There are 49 rooms in 2 versions: the Tradition category with its soft colors (sand or forest, for example) and the Evasion category, which is more spacious and cultivates the spirit of a family home. We inherited room 207 during our stay. Very pretty and spacious, with a view of the park at the back.

Our advice: soundproofing is sometimes not excellent, so specify that you want a quiet room, away from the elevator. Ask for a room with a view to the rear if possible.

The restaurant with a view

Once you've dropped off your belongings, make your way to the beating heart of the house: the restaurant. It's a kind of living room with an all-you-can-eat bar, a few armchairs and a cinematic view of the park. Take your time to stroll through the succession of richly decorated lounges and the mysterious library.

For lunch and dinner, the hotel always has something planned, and it's always super fresh. Expect seasonal cuisine that's both fresh and delicious.

Time for an aperitif

Step behind the bar to make yourself the drink of your choice. Wines, spirits, savory treats, coffee and soft drinks are self-service. Then you're spoilt for choice as you settle in to remake the world. We love the music playlist, and this song, for example, gives you a furious desire for freedom.

We've brought you a few ideas for cocktails we found on the spot:

- Spritz: 12 cl Prosecco, 6 cl Aperol, 2 cl sparkling water, 2 orange slices and ice cubes
- Mojito: 4 cl lime, 4 cl white rum, 2 cl cane sugar syrup, 6 mint leaves and ice cubes
- Campari Tonic: 9 cl tonic water, 3 cl Campari, 1 slice lime and ice cubes
- Margarita: 12 cl orange juice, 4 cl lime juice, 2 cl sugar syrup, 1 lime and ice cubes
- Punch: 12 cl orange juice, 6 cl pineapple juice, 6 cl lemon juice and 1 orange slice
- Americano: 4 cl Red Martini, 4 cl White Martini, 4 cl Campari, 1 orange slice and ice cubes
- Daiquiri: 4 cl Rum, 2 cl lime juice, 1 cl cane sugar syrup and 1 lime
- Mimosa: 8 cl champagne, 4 cl orange juice and 1 orange slice
- Gin tonic: 8 cl Tonic, 4 cl Gin, 2 lemon slices and ice cubes

The wooded park

When the weather's fine, a stroll through the wooded park is a must. A veritable haven of peace, with romantic statues, deckchairs for sunbathing, ping-pong table, pétanque court and 3 Nordic baths to cool off in. When the sun goes down, this is undoubtedly the most pleasant place in Paris.

Other activities for couples and kids include rosalie rides, cinema, kids' club, gaming room, yoga, a secret rendezvous in the Laiterie with its piano bar, massages, board games and karaoke.

Location

La Maison du Val is located in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, in the Yvelines department, about 30 minutes from the heart of Paris and the Château de Versailles. From Chatelet, simply take metro line A to the Maisons Laffitte stop. An Uber will then take you to the hotel in 10 min. The hotel is surrounded by the Forêt de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. We've taken several walks there, and it's a real breath of fresh air.
