Our stay
We had the opportunity to spend a lovely night here. What we liked best: the picturesque atmosphere directly inspired by the legendary Silk Road, the freshness of the food in the restaurant, the truly sensational (if small) room and the highly original elevator...
The owners have poured all their love of the Belleville district into the hotel, giving it a real charm: whitewashed walls, oriental sconces diffusing a soft orange light, dark wood, raffia-covered banquettes, scarred ceilings, patinated frames, amulets and old relics. Babel is like a great treasure trove, with a wealth of objects from all eras and countries.
As soon as you enter the elevator, the change of scenery begins. Through the glass cabin, the Tower of Babel drawn in Indian ink scrolls by. The doors open onto a hushed corridor, where time seems to stand still.
The rooms
The 31 rooms are well-designed and perfectly soundproofed. We love the spicy scent of the welcome products: a harmony of lemon, pepper, cardamom and cedar. The walls, as if patinated by time and sun, are adorned with ochre or water-green tones... Special mention must also go to the majestic headboards, which create a real sense of well-being.

Cosmopolitan cuisine
The Ernest & Souad restaurant offers an innovative concept. At lunchtime, from Monday to Friday, Souad's Cuisine is in the kitchen, serving vegan, organic and seasonal North African cuisine. In the evenings, from Tuesday to Saturday, Ernest takes over with chef Maddalena Spagnolo and an inventive vegetarian menu inspired by Italian cucina povera, between shareable plates and tasting menus.
Here, every meal has a social impact: in the evenings, profits from dinners finance the organic and sustainable food aid program run by Ernest; at lunchtime and on weekends, dishes from Souad's Kitchen create jobs and support people on integration schemes.
Breakfast
When you wake up, enjoy a delicious, sweet-and-savory breakfast, served in beautifully mismatched crockery. On the menu: freshly squeezed organic juice or detox, croissants from the Sain bakery, Chia pudding with seasonal fruit, homemade granola and scrambled eggs. At weekends, enjoy a generous brunch with Moroccan flavors, including bissara, tajine with vegetable dumplings or crêpe mille-trous.
A sensory playlist
Another detail we like: the quality of the musical playlist. Dark, mysterious and sensory, it takes you to the ends of the earth. Sometimes the music in Parisian hotels is very formatted, but that's not the case here.
Location
You are in the heart of Belleville, on a quiet pedestrian street known for its street art.
There are many artists' studios, restaurants, synagogues, and Asian supermarkets. There are also plenty of bars, such as Combat and La Commune. If you walk a bit, the Louvre Museum is only a 45-minute walk away.
Many of the products served at the hotel come directly from the neighborhood. The beer is brewed just a few blocks away, the coffee comes from Brûlerie de Jourdain, Zingam delivers seasonal fruits and vegetables through a local supply chain, and the bread is provided by Sain.
Are you thinking of exploring the city of Lille, just a 3-hour drive away? We recommend checking out Babel Lille, the little brother of Babel Belleville. It has the same style and philosophy.
PS: thanks to brilliant photographer Benoît Linero for the photos above, which so aptly capture the oriental atmosphere on site. Check out his Instagram, it's worth a look.
