Our experience with Nutchel

"Let's Go My Love" has a long history with Nutchel.

We were lucky enough to stay at the estate in the Ardennes twice, and both times it was a complete change of scenery. We were able to take walks in the woods, build a fire, have a nice barbecue on the terrace, and even go for a swim. Our fall stay was so enjoyable—we still think back on it often.

We were also lucky enough to spend a night (in cabin #22) at Nutchel Champagne right when it opened. There were still plenty of little details to iron out, but overall it was really nice. We really appreciated the staff’s kindness, the feeling of being able to unplug, and the bird sanctuary. It had such a great atmosphere—almost like being in a jungle.

Nutchel has something very special, with an authentically rustic ambience. The interior decoration in the cabin is like something out of a movie. It's not luxurious, but it has a soul.

We've been in touch with Julie there for several years now (she's been there since Nutchel's very beginning), and we also grabbed a beer together so we could introduce Nutchel to you better.

Arrival at the estate

You can check into your cabin starting at 4:00 p.m. Check-in is available every day except Saturday and Sunday. Check-out is available every day except Saturday.

Check-in is 100% self-service at one of the two cabins (depending on your cabin number) designated for this purpose. Here is a map to help you find your way.

You have a private locker in these cabins containing a selection of local products, information about your stay, a lamp, and any meals you may have ordered.

The estate is surrounded by meadows designated as a natural area of ecological interest and centuries-old hills—it’s very idyllic. Some cabins are located right on the river (the Armance) that runs through the estate. In winter, the river overflows its banks and the water flows right under your cabin… Very unique!

During your stay, you’ll have unlimited access to the outdoor spa. It’s the ultimate water experience.

The spa features the following facilities: 2 saunas, 2 Nordic baths, an unheated bath at 14°C, a cold bath at 10°C, a meditation room, and a relaxation room. You can book a massage in advance of your stay.

The cabins

The cabins are built from the finest local wood, with the greatest respect for nature. They are set into the ground using metal stakes, leaving no trace if the cabin is dismantled.

There are only 22 cabins ranging from 24 to 34 square meters:

1 • Sweet Cabin • Photo
2 • Soul Cabin • Photo
3 • Flow Cabin • Photo

Note: The Flow Cabin is accessible to people with limited mobility, and there is also a Tribe Cabin that sleeps 6 people.

Our favorite cabins are the ones located near the Cabanon des Forêts: from No. 16 to No. 22. Our two favorite cabins on the entire property are No. 19 and No. 22. They are the most private and quietest.

Depending on the cabin you choose, you’ll have access to the following amenities: a queen- or king-size bed, a hot water bottle, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, towels, complimentary toiletries, large windows with views of nature, a sitting area with a sofa, chairs, and a table, a wood-burning stove, and one electrical outlet for charging your devices. There is no Wi-Fi. Sheets and bath towels are provided.

You have a kitchenette equipped with a gas stove, refrigerator, sink with cold drinking water, pots, pans, kettles, all the necessary utensils, and the essentials: salt, pepper, olive oil, vinegar, sugar, ground coffee, tea, and cocoa powder.

A Bialetti coffee maker is available for your use. A must-have in the morning!

Outside, your covered patio is waiting for you, complete with a gas grill, a wooden table, and chairs. Pure summer pleasure: enjoying a delicious barbecue surrounded by nature with a glass of rosé. Keep an eye on the river—it’s not uncommon to spot beavers there.

A true hygge experience awaits you during your stay: oil lamps, candles, a good book, a cozy blanket, a hot water bottle, a cup of tea, and a large picture window offering views of the surrounding forest. Sensory appeal plays a very important role in the interior design.

Dining options

Breakfast is served early in the morning and is included in the reservation price. On the menu: fresh bread, crispy croissants, ham and cheese, eggs, butter, jam, yogurt, fresh fruit, milk, sugar, coffee, tea, and fruit juice.

And there are some extras for your meals:

- Barbecue basket: meats, bread, sides, sauces, and dessert
- Vegetarian barbecue basket: vegetarian patties, vegetables for grilling, bread, sides, sauces, and dessert

Location

Nutchel Champagne is located in Ervy-le-Châtel, halfway between Troyes and Auxerre. This charming town is part of the "Petites Cités de Caractère" network. There’s a supermarket just a 2-minute drive from the estate, which is very convenient.

Once the capital of the Counts of Champagne, the city of Troyes charms visitors with its remarkably well-preserved historical and architectural heritage. The city center, whose shape from above resembles a champagne cork, invites you on a journey back in time.

We really love the Heart of Troyes near the canal. This stainless-steel lace heart glows red at dusk, and its beats quicken as you get closer.

Ruelle des Chats is also worth a look: this street is so narrow that the roofs of the houses almost touch.

Less than 30 minutes from Ervy-le-Châtel, you’ll reach the first hills of the Champagne vineyards, particularly in Montgueux.
