Signau House & Garden is a listed boutique hotel in Zurich's leafy Riesbach district, just 10 minutes from the city center. This English cottage-style villa houses just 9 rooms on 3 floors, a lounge for relaxing by the fire, a small cinema with 25 seats and a lovely, bright veranda where you can enjoy breakfast overlooking the wooded garden.

Our stay
We were lucky enough to spend a night here and it was a real breath of fresh air away from the bustling center of Zurich. What we liked best: the atmosphere in the house (especially at night), the 2 private fireplaces in the living room where you can sit in the evening and have a drink, the divine comfort of the bedding and the quietness of the neighborhood.
The arrival
From the outside, the villa is majestic and invites the fascination of a bygone era. This former family home dates back to 1912 and was transformed into a hotel in 2018 after extensive renovation. Régula and Suzanne, both graduates of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, are today the owners and welcome you with a smile. The team is all-female!
The rooms
There are 9 rooms located on the 1st and 2nd floors. During our stay, we had room n°8 on the 2nd floor, which we recommend. Special mention for the soft Christian Fischbacher bed linen and the bathroom: vintage bathtub and Molton Brown toiletries. We had a nice long bath.

The rooms are decorated in a minimalist Bauhaus style. Admire the chairs from Thonet or the transparent stools from Kartell, for example. Depending on the room you choose, you'll have a view of the magnificent garden, the peaceful Signaustrasse and/or the equally peaceful Neumünsterallee. You can take the elevator or the majestic staircase.
Honesty bar
In the evening, you can enjoy the lounge and its honesty bar with selected cocktails, mixed and ready to use. While sipping your Gimlet, leaf through a beautiful book or why not play a game of cards with your loved ones? There are 2 fireplaces in 2 different rooms, and everything you need to light a fire is at your disposal.
Breakfast
In the morning, a tasty breakfast (included in your reservation) is served in the checkerboard-tiled veranda, or in the garden by the pond if the weather is fine. Breakfast is mostly à la carte. We ordered a traditional Signau Birchermüesli and an omelet. There's also a mini-buffet on the veranda, including bread and croissants.
A private cinema
For the record, the hotel once served as an office for Warner Bros. There's a 25-seat cinema in the basement, with many organized movie nights. Roger Moore and Martin Scorsese once spent hours here. You can even privatize the cinema if you want to surprise your partner.
Location
Signau House & Garden is located on a quiet street in the Riesbach district of Zurich, Switzerland. This is undoubtedly the best residential area of the city. Take a look across the street: that's the French Embassy. And you're only a 10-minute walk from the lake. Our tip: take the pleasant walk along the lake to the center. Private parking is available in the hotel's underground garage.

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area of Zurich, a 25-30 min walk from the old town. If the weather's fine, we love Seebad Enge: an open-air pool by the lake with bar and sauna. Another idea: a stroll along the Limmat River in the middle of the old town. A very romantic spot, especially in the evening. And don't forget the Arboretum, right by the mouth of the Limmat, with its tropical trees and cacti!
